Quilting isn’t the act of sewing together squares in a patch work fashion or strips in a log cabin style. No, it’s the sewing together of two or more layers to prevent the shifting of filling in such a way that it also traps warmth. It’s the step I neglect almost every time. I’ll send my blanket through the machine a few lazy times but my heart belongs to the planning of the blanket. I have two plans on the table. A cat quilt (4’×5′ 265 pieces) and a log cabin quilt (8’×8′ 1,089 pieces).
